India’s COVID-19 landscape is quietly shifting again — and not necessarily in the right direction. As per recent reports, active COVID-19 cases have shown a gradual uptick across states like Maharashtra, Kerala, Karnataka, and West Bengal. While the numbers are far from the pandemic’s peak, the concern is that public awareness and governmental urgency seem to be fading even as the virus lingers in the background.
What’s alarming is the noticeable dip in testing and precautionary measures. In many regions, masks are a distant memory, and vaccination rates, particularly booster doses, are plateauing. This brings us to a critical question: Are we underestimating the long-term nature of this virus?
The recent data reveals that the virus isn’t gone — it's just lying low. Experts have continuously warned that COVID-19 might become endemic, meaning it could stick around like the flu, flaring up occasionally. However, with the general population’s fatigue around COVID-related news, there's a growing risk of complacency, which might pave the way for another spike.
At the heart of the issue is a balancing act between moving on and staying alert. Most people want life to be "normal" again — and understandably so. But does that mean we should completely ignore precautions?
